Job Description

The Cloud Architect is a key element within the Rackspace support infrastructure and is expected to provide department, company and industry management and implementation into solutions. The Architect is expected to take the initiative and advise on potential pitfalls that may encounter on large-scale multi-platform infrastructure across all customers. Addresses specific customer needs through leveraging new and existing feature sets, products, and technologies. Evaluates, documents solutions and trains Cloud Engineering and support staff to ensure supportability of customer environments. Serves as the last stop in the Rackspace support group for technical escalation and issue resolution of the most complex problems. Architects own escalations to ensure resolution and are leveraged as a Subject Matter Expert for input on new product selection and implementation into the support structure. The Architect will also partner with vendors to analyze escalated requests for assistance, using this data to identify training opportunities that elevate the level of technical expertise and drive positive customer outcomes. Responsible for adhering to company security policies and procedures and any other relevant policies and standards as directed.

Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of designing, building, implementing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed, highly available systems
  • Strong knowledge of Project Management methodologies
  • Strong understanding of services and protocols, configuration, management, and troubleshooting of hosting environments, including web servers, databases, caching, and database services
  • Mastery Knowledge of the VMware Platform. Including but not limited to:
  • Advanced knowledge of the vSphere platform
  • Strong networking and NSX administration skills
  • Strong working knowledge of fibre channel SANS, NFS and vSAN
  • Strong knowledge of vROPS/vRLI
  • Strong working knowledge of HP/DELL Server hardware platforms
  • Strong knowledge/troubleshooting of Disaster Recovery technologies (e.g. ZERTO, SRM)
  • Scripting knowledge/experience is a plus(PowerCLI, REST).
  • Strong knowledge/troubleshooting of vCloud Director and vCloud Foundation.
  • Advanced knowledge in the application of current and emerging network software and hardware technology and protocols
  • Strong knowledge in the application of current and emerging network software and hardware technology and protocols
  • Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own job discipline or field
  • Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services

  • English language fluency preferred

 

Supervision:

  • Operates independently with little to no input required. 
  • Mentors and supervises lower-level engineers.

 

Experience / Education:

  • Secondary/High school diploma or GED required.  
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Requires 8+ years related technical experience in systems engineering, administration and with VMWare, including a minimum of 3-year experience equivalent to a VMware Cloud Engineer III. 
  • Must have an active VCP-DCV Certification.
  • The following certifications preferred: CCIA, CCEE, CCEA, CCA, MCSE/MCITP, NSX, vRealize Operations and vSAN badge.

 

Physical Demands:

  • General office environment. 
  • May require extended periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor. 
  • Elevated levels of stress may occur at times.
  • No special physical demands required. 
  • Due to the 24x7x365 operations of the business, the candidate must be able to work a flexible work schedule, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

The following information is required by the Colorado Equal Pay Transparency Act and the New York City Pay Transparency Act. This applies only to individuals working in the state of Colorado or in New York City. The anticipated starting pay range of Colorado and New York City applicants for this role is $114,000 - $165,000 for CO and $131,200 – $192,390 for NYC. Unless already included in the posted pay range and based on eligibility, the role may include variable compensation in the form of bonus, commissions, or other discretionary payments. These discretionary payments are based on company and/or individual performance and may change at any time.
