Job Summary: 

PIC Group has an excellent opportunity for an experienced SCADA System Administrator with a Municipal Power Owner in Muscatine, Iowa. The SCADA System Administrator reports to the Control Center Manager and is responsible for administration and all supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system servers, workstations, and associated databases.  The SCADA System Administrator will monitor, maintain, and support all computer systems, field equipment, application software, and SQL databases for the Control Center. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain primary and backup SCADA systems to include SCADA peripherals (RTUs, JungleMUX, Orion equipment, etc.), application software, SQL databases, and LAN and WAN networks.
  • Monitor operations and procedures for improvement opportunities to increase operational efficiency for turnaround and downtimes.
  • Research, evaluate, recommend, and implement changes or upgrades which will improve performance.
  • Work with other departments to ensure systems comply with NERC standards (Reliability and CIP).
  • Maintain and review all required system logs.
  • Test and install OEM operating system and application patches per relevant regulatory requirements.  Install and maintain virus protection software on all servers and workstations.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and implement necessary configuration changes to ensure a secure network.
  • Assist with the planning, design, and implementation of system upgrade or replacement projects.
  • Maintain current and accurate documentation for all system hardware and software, including change management information as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain system RTUs and other peripheral equipment. 
  • Ensure SCADA system compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Analyze, design, implement, and maintain all system reports and scripts using the appropriate programming language.
  • Reports to Control Center Manager
  • Ensure compliance with NERC Standards (Reliability and CIP) and cyber security issues.
  • Supervise SCADA vendor support staff activities, including administration of all security practices related to remote vendor system access and implementation of problem resolution.
  • Provide technical assistance and training for SCADA users as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Working knowledge of, and the ability to stay current in, programming languages such as VBA, Batch, SQL, Bash.
  • TCP/IP networking experience with familiarity in Cisco equipment, including a background in switching and routing protocols and VPNs.
  • Familiarity with deployed protocols to include FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, NTP, SCP, SSH, SFTP, SMTP, SNMP, TFTP, Telnet, and DNS.
  • Experience supporting network operating system platforms; Unix, Linux, and Microsoft systems.
  • Working knowledge of, and ability to troubleshoot, configure, and replace RAID hardware and server components.
  • Knowledge of database development and maintenance, including ODBC to access databases.
  • MCSE and/or CCNA certification or equivalent experience with server, firewall, and networking desirable.
  • Linux Professional Institute, Red hat RHCT, RHCE certification, or equivalent system administration experience desirable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, with ability to build productive professional relationships and promote a team atmosphere.
  • Proficiency with use of Microsoft Office Word at an intermediate level and Excel at an advanced level.
  • Good judgment and reasoning skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work environment is primarily in an office environment.

Education / Experience:

  • Associate degree in a technical discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  •  Bachelor’s degree in computer science preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of electric utility operations experience preferred.
