Job Description

The VMware Cloud Engineer is responsible for infrastructure tasks including provisioning hypervisors, connectivity issues, upgrades, and day-to-day issues and audits.  Administer, maintain and troubleshooting of the supported VMware Product Stack (including SDDC environments). Ensure utilization of proper change management procedures regarding the installation and testing of all upgrades and enhancements for VMware infrastructure and Life Cycle Management. Troubleshoot problems and take corrective action on a timely and effective basis. Provide technical support to internal and external users. Due to the 24X7 operations of the business, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, and holidays. 


Knowledge / Skills / Ability:

  • Intermediate operating systems knowledge (Windows and Linux). 
  • Basic network and NSX administration skills. 
  • Working knowledge/troubleshooting of fibre channel SANS, NFS and vSAN.
  • Working knowledge of vROPS/vRLI.
  • Working knowledge/troubleshooting of the vSphere platform.
  • Working knowledge/troubleshooting of Disaster Recovery technologies (e.g. ZERTO, SRM).
  • Working knowledge of HP/DELL Server hardware platforms. 


Job Complexity:

  • Works appropriate level tickets in queue. 
  • Monitors and provides maintenance for all related infrastructure. 
  • Works with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues. 
  • Gathers data for capacity planning and performance analysis of infrastructure. 
  • Acts as the primary interface for the client or project manager for basic to intermediate tasks/projects. 
  • Implements large, complex enterprise-class solutions using VMware technologies. 
  • Ensures the control, integrity, and accessibility of the VMware environment for the enterprise.   



  • Operates with independent judgment on daily tasks. 
  • Mentors level I engineers.



  • Operates independently with little to no input required. 
  • Mentors and supervises lower-level engineers.


Experience / Education:

  • Secondary/High school diploma or GED required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Requires 3-5 years related technical experience in systems engineering or administration including experience in various virtualization systems.
  • Must have an active VCP-DCV Certification.
  • The following certifications preferred:  CCIA, CCEE, CCEA, CCA, MCSE/MCITP, vRealize Operations, NSX and vSAN badge.  


Physical Demands:

  • General office environment. 
  • May require extended periods sitting and viewing a computer monitor. 
  • Elevated levels of stress may occur at times.
  • No special physical demands required. 
  • Due to the 24x7x365 operations of the business, the candidate must be able to work a flexible work schedule, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
